I think i’m going to dub this the summer of travel. A few days ago, Jason and I returned from our 10 day vacation in Florida and we had a great time. I’ll recap the whole trip, with plenty of pictures, really soon. But until then, you can read all about our decision to go to Florida in this blog post.
I was a bit worried about finding a balance between over indulging and maintaing a normalcy in our day to day diet. Ten days adds up to a lot of eating out, so I had planned ahead to make sure at least one meal a day was somewhat nutritious. On day two we stumbled upon Tropical Smoothie Cafe and started almost every morning thereafter with a delicious fruit smoothie. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE smoothies. I’m always experimenting in the kitchen with new combinations, and I was more than ready to toss together a few new concoctions when we got home. Having so many smoothies on vacation must have gotten to me, because now thats all I want to have for breakfast.
The day we got back I made sure to stop by the grocery store to load up on frozen and fresh fruit. I noticed Tropical Smoothie Cafe uses turbinado sugar instead of plain white sugar, and after doing some reading, I decided to buy a bag and try it out at home. I typically use honey as a sweetener, so I wasn’t sure how I would like the switch to turbinado… but so far so good. The turbinado is not quite as sweet as honey, but I will definitely be sticking with it for all my fruit smoothies in the future.
Now, I don’t usually measure what i’m tossing into the blender, so all measurements are approximate. I think some things are also up to preference. Some people may prefer more cherries to blueberries, while others may want to pack their smoothie full of banana with just a few berries tossed in. Here’s what I added to create my “Berry-Cherry Banana Smoothie”.
1 Medium Banana
1/2 Cup Blueberries
6-8 Pre Pitted Cherries
3-4 Large Strawberries
1/2 Cup Cold Water
1 Large Handful of Ice
Turbinado to taste (I added about 2 tablespoons)
Add everything to the blender, cover, and blend until smooth! You may need to add extra water or ice depending on how everything is moving when you turn the blender on.
TaDa! It was delicious, and I think the cherries were a hit:) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Now if this supposed stormy weather holds off, I’m going to get ready for a run!
Question of The Day: What’s your favorite smoothie?
My favorite is peanut butter banana.
